SUNY Geneseo students summit Kilimanjaro for charity

A group of SUNY Geneseo students went to Tanzania to climb 19,341-foot tall Mount Kilimanjaro and along the way also raised thousands of dollars for charity before doing so.

Berlin High School alumnus Steve Bordonaro reached the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa – a 19,341 foot climb – on May 28.
Following a nine-day trek, former Sacramento State student Joe Dangtran arrived at Mount Everest’s South Base Camp in Nepal on Sunday, May 25.
A group of UConn students is climbing to incredible heights for a good cause.
More than a dozen college students from Connecticut prepared Tuesday for their trip to Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.
A team of Stony Brook University students is preparing for the journey of a lifetime to help those in need, all while bringing awareness to the lack of access to clean water in impoverished villages around the world.
Bertschi, who is double majoring in marine vertebrate biology and ecosystems and human impact, said this program, run by Choose a Challenge, is ideal for students because it combines a once-in-a-lifetime travel opportunity with fundraising for a charity.
Tour operator Choose a Challenge, whose young customers combine adventure travel with raising money for good causes, is expanding its footprint across UK universities and the US.
Funding promise in developing nations

There are 250 million children who cannot read this sentence, according to the New York City non-profit Pencils of Promise, and that’s why 15 UB students are raising money to build a school in a developing nation.
As a student at the University of Connecticut, Keckler rallied fellow classmates in 2017 to climb what some would call the unthinkable, Mt. Kilimanjaro.
