First time purchasing travel insurance?

We’re here to help! We require our challengers to purchase travel insurance before heading abroad with us. Here is what you need to know before purchasing your plan.

Although it may seem like it's too early to start thinking about insurance, your challenge will be here before you know it! This is a requirement for you to go on your trek so it is imperative to get a policy as soon as you can.

Some insurance policies even cover pre-trip hazards meaning if something happens that prevents you from taking on your challenge you may be entitled to compensation: so we suggest getting insurance ASAP.  

For a specific policy, check out www.worldnomads.com. Both their Standard and Explorer Plan are great and  cover all of the requirements that we ask for in an insurance plan. They cost about $75 and $100 respectively.

We recommend World Nomads because their plans are affordable, have extensive coverage and are a reputable company. Before purchasing, however, please check over the policy you choose to make sure it is suitable for both our and your own needs. You’re of course welcome to use another policy outside of World Nomads that may work better for you. Simple Google searches of ‘Adventure travel insurance’ will bring up various plans to consider. However, please do keep in mind there are a few things that we require your insurance includes.

Our requirements are:

  • Coverage for the dates you are abroad and the country of your stay

  • Emergency medical response including helicopter evacuation

  • For Kilimanjaro and Everest treks, you need a policy that covers treks up to 19,500 feet/6,000 meters. For Machu Picchu, you will need a policy that covers treks up to 15,000 feet/5,000 meters. This can usually be found in a ‘Sports’ or ‘Adventure Activities’ section.


We recommend getting this months in advance so that you are ready to go on your trip without any last minute issues! Once you’ve purchased your plan, we ask that it is uploaded to your registration portal, or sent to us directly via email.
